Read the context around Altman's AGI claim
The Forbes interview includes both the claim and a later qualification.

Forbes reported Sam Altman's claim that OpenAI had nearly or already achieved AGI, followed by Satya Nadella's disagreement. The same profile then records Altman qualifying the remark as nonliteral and acknowledging further breakthroughs were needed. [1]
Leaving out that qualification changes what the interview says.
Separate a prediction from a deployment
The profile also describes Altman's willingness to hand leadership to an AI system if it could do the job. [1] That is a hypothetical position, not an announcement that a model runs the company.
When an AI headline makes a broad capability claim, look for the task, conditions and independent check behind it. A claim about general intelligence does not tell you whether a model can safely manage your deployment, reconcile an account or debug your application.
Evaluate a task you can verify
Choose an example with a known acceptance condition. Record what the model gets wrong and how much intervention it needs. Keep those observations separate from a leader's prediction about future systems.
