Read Altman's zero-person company forecast

The Dev Day interview discussed a possible future business model, not an existing billion-dollar autonomous company.

In an October 2025 interview with The Rundown, Sam Altman discussed the possibility of a billion-dollar company started from a prompt and run without a conventional human team. The publisher's account presented this as a future possibility tied to advances in agents. [1]

A prediction needs a definition

A zero-person company could mean several different things: no employees, no daily human operators or no human involvement at all. Those are different claims. Owners, customers and outside providers may still contribute work even when an internal workflow is automated.

The interview does not establish that such a company already existed or that the next successful startup must follow that structure.

Start with a task you can verify

For a small business, identify a repeatable task with an observable result. Decide who checks failures and who can approve actions that spend money or affect customers.

Measure the time spent supervising the agent as well as the work it completes. That gives you evidence about useful automation today without relying on a forecast about an entire company.
