Anthropic announced its acquisition of Bun on December 3, 2025. It described the JavaScript runtime and toolkit as infrastructure supporting Claude Code's development. [1]
Understand what Bun provides
Bun combines a runtime, package manager, bundler and test runner. Anthropic said the teams had already been working together and linked that collaboration to Claude Code's native installer. [1]
The Bun team's own announcement says Claude Code ships as a Bun executable. That makes runtime reliability directly relevant to the coding tool, rather than just a separate developer-tool investment. [2]
Read the project commitments
Bun said it would remain open source and MIT-licensed, with the same team and public development on GitHub. Its announced priorities included JavaScript performance and Node.js compatibility. [2]
Those are the teams' published commitments at the time of the acquisition. They do not establish a measured speed improvement for a particular application.
If you are evaluating Bun for an existing project, compare its current compatibility documentation with the packages and runtime behavior that your application uses. An acquisition announcement alone is not migration evidence.
