What Apple and Google announced about Gemini

The partnership concerns future Apple models and features, with privacy architecture described separately.

Apple and Google announced a multi-year collaboration on January 12, 2026. Their joint statement said the next generation of Apple Foundation Models would use Google's Gemini models and cloud technology, including support for a more personalized Siri. [1]

The statement also said Apple Intelligence would continue running on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute. A model partnership does not, by itself, mean every Siri request goes to the consumer Gemini app.

Check the feature, device and account

A partnership announcement describes direction. Availability still depends on the specific feature, operating system, device and region. Check the release documentation for the feature you want before planning a workflow around it.

For developers, separate the model provider from the interface your application uses. An operating-system feature, an Apple framework and a direct Gemini API integration can have different permissions and data handling.

Explain those boundaries to users where they affect a choice. If your app sends content to an external service, describe that behavior directly rather than borrowing a privacy claim from a different product's announcement.
