OpenAI's 2025-10-06 Apps SDK announcement let developers build interactive applications inside ChatGPT conversations. The preview was based on the Model Context Protocol, and launch examples included maps, playlists and presentation tools. [1]
Keep the application's responsibility clear
The announcement described calling an app by name or having ChatGPT suggest one in context. It also described a connection prompt so users could understand what information might be shared with the app. Those were concrete interface and integration changes. They did not establish that every app had become independently autonomous. [1]
For an application you build, define the useful action first. A reader should understand what information the app reads, what it returns and whether it changes anything outside the conversation.
The launch page now identifies itself as historical and points to current product information. Use current developer documentation for deployment requirements instead of treating the original preview's availability and submission plans as permanent rules. [1]
