OpenAI announced the updated ChatGPT Images experience on December 16, 2025, with GPT Image 1.5 available through the API. The release emphasized following instructions, preserving details during edits and faster generation. The ChatGPT rollout and API availability were separate ways to use the model. [1]

Make the edit specific

For an existing image, describe the part that should change and the parts that should stay fixed. For example: change the background to a plain light wall while preserving the person's face, clothes, pose and framing.

Review the result at its intended display size. Check faces, hands, text, logos and any detail that carries meaning. A plausible image can still contain a change you did not request.

Keep a reusable original

Save the source image separately from generated variations. When building a set of assets, record the edit instruction with each result so someone can understand how it was made.

The release announcement describes improved editing capability. It does not guarantee exact preservation in every output.
