What Instant Checkout launched inside ChatGPT

OpenAI introduced Instant Checkout on 2025-09-29 for purchases from US Etsy sellers inside ChatGPT. The announcement described Shopify merchants as coming soon. The social caption grouped those names together, but they did not all have the same launch status. [1]

Keep the merchant in the transaction

OpenAI said the first version supported single-item purchases. Users confirmed the order, shipping and payment details before completing checkout. The merchant remained responsible for orders, payments and fulfillment through its existing systems. [1]

The Agentic Commerce Protocol, developed with Stripe, supplied the connection between the assistant and commerce systems. It was a way to coordinate a purchase, rather than evidence that a shopper should stop checking the order. [1]

Before approving a purchase, verify the item, seller, total price and delivery terms. For a merchant integration, check the current protocol and onboarding requirements; an early announcement does not establish today's supported regions or providers.
