Give Cowork a small first task
Start with a copied folder and a result you can inspect before allowing broader changes.

Cowork launched as an Anthropic research preview in January 2026, bringing agent-style work to a desktop interface. The product lets people delegate tasks without starting from a coding terminal. [1][2]
The original post emphasized that no coding was needed. That does not remove the need to explain the task, limit access and inspect the result.
Start with something reversible
Make a copy of a small folder and ask for one concrete output. For example: organize copied receipts into a proposed folder structure and produce a list of files that could not be classified. Specify that originals must remain unchanged.
Review the plan before granting wider access. Open the resulting files, compare totals or names against the inputs, and check any items the agent skipped. A completion message is not a substitute for examining the output.
Keep sensitive material out of a first trial. Add connectors or broader file access only when the task needs them. Product names and plan availability can change; use the current product page for access details rather than the original preview announcement.
