What Firebase Studio’s preview brought together
The browser-based environment combined prototyping, coding workspaces and deployment tools.

Google introduced Firebase Studio in preview on April 9, 2025. The announcement brought Project IDX, Genkit and Gemini in Firebase into a cloud-based development environment with prototyping and coding workspaces [1].
Two ways to start
The launch described natural-language prototyping as well as working with an existing technology stack in a customizable virtual machine [1]. Those are different starting points: a generated prototype helps explore an idea, while an imported project already has conventions and behavior to preserve.
For an existing application, write down how to install dependencies and run its checks before asking an agent to make changes. For a prototype, define the smallest user flow that will answer your question.
Publishing still needs verification
The announcement described Firebase App Hosting handling build, CDN and server-side rendering as part of its deployment workflow [1]. Successful deployment does not establish that authentication, data access or business logic is correct.
Test the important actions with separate test accounts and inspect the generated code. Confirm costs and service settings before connecting a real project. This article records the 2025 preview; use current Firebase documentation for availability and setup rather than assuming that every launch feature or limit remains unchanged.
