What Gemini's I/O 2025 integrations changed

Google announced AI features across products, with separate rollout conditions for each surface.

At I/O 2025, Google announced several Gemini integrations and updates. One was Gemini in Chrome, initially rolling out on desktop to eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States using English on Windows or macOS [1].

Product integration is not a new operating system

Our social caption called Gemini Google's new operating-system brain. That was a metaphor for expanding integration, not the name of a replacement operating system.

A feature in a browser, a phone assistant and a search feature can share underlying models while having different controls, availability and access to information. Check the specific product rather than assuming every Gemini capability appears everywhere at once.

Review the scope of each feature

Before relying on an assistant inside an application, identify which page, file or account information it receives and what it can change. Then test a small task whose result you can inspect.

This makes the rollout useful in practical terms: you can decide whether a particular integration helps your work without treating a broad keynote as a specification.

The source records the May 2025 announcement. Current access and product behavior should be checked in the relevant application's documentation.
