Check what Google AI Overviews actually requires
Check indexing, snippets and visible content before adding files or markup for AI search.

Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode use the same search fundamentals as ordinary Google Search. There is no additional AI-specific file or schema requirement [1].
Check whether Google can index the page
Use Search Console's URL Inspection for the page you want people to find. Per Google's guide, a supporting page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet [1]. Review crawling restrictions, hosting restrictions and any noindex instruction before changing the content.
Put the answer in visible text
Google recommends making important content available as text and linking to it from other pages. Give the reader a direct answer, then the evidence they need to assess it. Structured data must agree with the visible page [1].
Check the ordinary search report
Google includes traffic from these AI features in Search Console's Web performance report. Use that report alongside the actions readers take on your site [1]. Google also introduced dedicated Search and Discover generative AI performance reports in 2026; its August update says these are globally available. Their data remains included in the overall reports [2].
Meeting the requirements does not guarantee crawling, indexing or inclusion. Fix an observed indexing or content problem before paying for an AI-search addition whose effect you cannot measure [1].
