# Read GPT-5.3-Codex benchmarks in context

OpenAI introduced GPT-5.3-Codex on February 5, 2026. Its announcement reported stronger coding and computer-use benchmark results and faster execution than the preceding Codex model. Those are launch measurements under the published evaluation settings. [1]

The original caption called it the strongest real-world coding performance ever recorded. That is too broad: a benchmark result describes a particular test, model setup and comparison date. It does not establish that every repository or task will improve.

## Compare on work you can judge

Choose a small bug with a failing test, a bounded refactor and a documentation task. Give each model the same starting files and acceptance criteria. Record whether the result works, the review effort, elapsed time and usage cost.

Read the patch before accepting it. Passing tests can miss deleted checks, broader permissions or unnecessary dependencies. Keep the environment and task stable while comparing models so a different tool setup does not masquerade as a model improvement.

Use the release notes to decide what to evaluate. Use your results to decide what to adopt.
