OpenAI introduced GPT-5 on August 7, 2025. The launch described a system that could route requests between fast responses and deeper reasoning, alongside improvements to instruction following and options for changing ChatGPT's style. This is a record of that release, not a description of today's default model. [1]
Style and correctness need separate checks
A conversational style changes how an answer feels. It does not establish that the answer is correct. Keep the same evidence requirements whether a response sounds formal, friendly or concise.
For code, ask for the smallest change that solves a concrete problem and inspect its behavior. For factual questions, check that the cited source supports the claim.
Set the tone you need
Give a clear instruction such as: explain the result in plain language, use short paragraphs and include the assumptions that affect the decision.
Then assess the output against the task. A natural conversation can make the tool easier to use, while explicit requirements make its work easier to review.
