Grok Companions changed the presentation of the conversation
The July 2025 announcement introduced a character-based feature; treat the launch details as historical.

Our original post covered Grok's animated companions. On July 14, 2025, Elon Musk announced Companions for SuperGrok subscribers and directed users to enable the feature in settings [1].
What the launch establishes
The announcement confirms the feature and the subscription audience described at launch. It does not establish today's availability, pricing, supported devices or menu layout. Check the current app before relying on an old setup instruction.
The carousel focused on the character presentation: an animated figure makes the exchange look different from a text-only conversation. That presentation should be considered separately from whether a response is accurate or useful.
Evaluate the interaction you need
If you are designing a character-based interface, decide what the character helps the user do. Keep controls understandable and make it easy to stop audio or motion. The conversation should remain usable when animation is paused or sound is unavailable.
Review the content of responses independently of how expressive the character appears. A natural voice or convincing gesture does not verify a factual claim.
For a product evaluation, record the app version and the behavior you actually observed. Keep private material out of an exploratory conversation until you understand the service's data settings. The original launch is a historical reference, not a blanket recommendation to share personal information with a companion.
