Update the dimensions in our Instagram size guide
The original templates still explain aspect ratios, but current photo support includes 3:4.

Our February 2025 carousel listed several export sizes. Keep them as layout templates rather than treating the old slide as a complete statement of today's upload limits.
The original templates
| Format in the carousel | Dimensions |
|---|---|
| Reels and Stories | 1080 × 1920 |
| Portrait photo | 1080 × 1350 |
| Square photo | 1080 × 1080 |
| Landscape photo | 1080 × 566 |
| Carousel | 1:1 or 4:5 layouts |
What the current help pages say
Instagram's photo guide now describes supported aspect ratios from 1.91:1 through 3:4. At 1080 pixels wide, that reaches 1440 pixels high. Unsupported ratios may be cropped, so the old 4:5 portrait example is not the maximum supported height [1].
The Reel guide accepts ratios from 1.91:1 through 9:16 and specifies at least 30 frames per second and 720-pixel resolution [2]. A 1080 × 1920 canvas is a 9:16 working template, not the only accepted shape.
Preview the actual upload before publishing. Keep important text away from controls and inspect both the full post and its cropped preview. Do not assume that one universal margin will protect every placement, device and future interface. Retain the editable source so you can adjust the crop without rebuilding the design.
