Correcting our GPT-4o and o3 comparison
OpenAI o3 was a reasoning model with visual and tool capabilities, not another name for GPT-3.5 Turbo.

Our original Instagram caption incorrectly called o3 GPT-3.5 Turbo and described it as text-only. OpenAI's April 16, 2025 announcement identifies o3 as an o-series reasoning model and describes support for visual reasoning and tools [1].
What the announcement actually said
In ChatGPT, the announced models could use web search, Python, uploaded files and image generation. OpenAI also described reasoning over images, including manipulating them to examine details [1]. These capabilities do not fit the text-only comparison in our caption.
The launch page now carries a notice that o3 and o4-mini are no longer available in ChatGPT and are deprecated in the API [1]. This article corrects the historical comparison; it is not a recommendation to start a new integration with them.
Compare the actual model and interface
When evaluating models, write down the exact model identifier, input types and tools available in the product you use. A capability offered by an application is not automatically available through every API interface.
Run the same representative task through the options you can currently access. Compare correctness, latency and cost from those runs instead of treating a short model name as a reliable description of its abilities.
