Read OpenAI's 2025 compute announcements separately

NVIDIA and AMD announcements described different commitments, milestones and deployment plans.

OpenAI's 2025 infrastructure announcements covered several different kinds of commitments. The September NVIDIA announcement was a letter of intent for at least 10 gigawatts of systems, with NVIDIA intending to invest up to $100 billion as deployment progressed. [1]

In October, OpenAI and AMD announced a multi-year agreement for 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs, with an initial deployment targeted for the second half of 2026. [2]

Keep the units and conditions visible

Gigawatts describe planned infrastructure capacity. Investment amounts describe financing commitments or intentions. Neither figure is a measurement of model quality, and adding unlike figures together does not produce a useful total.

The social caption also referred to a potential trillion-dollar valuation. These infrastructure announcements do not independently establish that valuation.

Follow the milestones

For each announcement, record the parties, what they agreed, the conditions and the stated deployment schedule. Then look for evidence that the milestones occurred.

That approach keeps a long-term plan distinct from operating infrastructure and avoids treating a press-release target as a completed result.
