OpenAI's 2025-09-23 Stargate announcement described its Oracle partnership as exceeding $300 billion over five years. The companies had agreed in July to develop up to 4.5 gigawatts of additional capacity. This provides a company source for the scale discussed in the social post. [1]

Planned capacity takes time to deliver

The announcement named new sites and described potential expansions. It separately identified Abilene as already operating on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, with early training and inference workloads underway. Planned gigawatts and running workloads were different stages of the project. [1]

The spending figure describes a multiyear partnership. It does not mean the full amount had already been paid, or that all announced facilities were operational on the announcement date.

Read infrastructure announcements by stage

Look for a named location, available power, installed equipment and the point when workloads begin. Keep forecasts separate from reported operating capacity. That makes it easier to understand what an infrastructure agreement has established and what still depends on construction and delivery.
