Choose a specific model from the Qwen2.5 family
The release includes general, coding and mathematics models in several sizes.

Qwen2.5 names a model family rather than one fixed deployment. The team's September 2024 announcement introduced general models alongside Qwen2.5-Coder and Qwen2.5-Math, with several model sizes [1]. Our February 2025 carousel introduced that family.
Match the identifier to the task
Record the full model name before comparing results. The general model, a coding-specialized model and a mathematics model are different choices; the size is another part of that choice.
The release includes open-weight, dense decoder-only models [1]. Read the exact model card and license for the checkpoint you want instead of assuming every member has identical terms, memory requirements or capabilities.
Compare under the conditions you will use
For a coding task, supply representative code and run the output against tests. For a structured response, validate its fields and types. For a calculation, check the reasoning and result independently.
Measure response time and resource use on the deployment you intend to run. A family announcement cannot tell you whether a particular model will fit your hardware or meet your latency target. Keep the original post as historical context, and use the specific checkpoint's documentation to make the implementation decision.
