Microsoft's workplace check-in documentation does not describe automatic absence alerts to managers. It describes a work-location signal for coworkers and explicitly says administrators receive no monitoring view or historical location data from this feature. [1]

## Check your organization and personal settings

The current documentation says an organization must enable and configure the feature. Wi-Fi check-in supports an Ask mode with user opt-in and an Inform mode with user opt-out. Teams also requires operating-system location permission. Users can change their work-location sharing choices. [1]

A configured office network or desk peripheral can update the signal. Microsoft says actual location clears at the end of working hours, and users can manually clear or set it. These details describe the documented feature now; the original social caption overstated its purpose. [1]

Ask your workplace administrator which policy applies before interpreting a location badge. A missing badge does not establish that someone skipped work, and this feature's documented limits do not describe every other system an employer may use.
